ege was founded by Mads Eg Damgaard in 1938. Today, ege is one of Europe’s largest manufacturers of textile flooring. Mads Eg Damgaard was a visionary. His philosophy was uncompromising: he used only the latest and most advanced technology in carpet production and he was not afraid to challenge convention. His philosophy survives at ege.
In 1985, ege was listed for the first time as a public limited company in Denmark: egetæpper a/s. The group's primary activities are production and sales of tufted carpets for the contract and domestic markets. ege produces more than 30 different standard carpet products for the contract market and just under 30 standard domestic products, and we use advanced technologies to produce these in a multitude of colours and patterns. On an annual basis, we produce about 5 million m2 of carpets.
The carpet production takes place at our two factories in Denmark.
- Herning: Production and sale of patterned, tufted and flat-woven carpets.
- Gram: Production of tufted and flat-woven carpets
ege also purchases undyed flat-woven ground tissue from Bentzon Carpets. We dye and add backing to the ground tissue, which we then resell.
In addition to our factories in Denmark, the ege carpets group owns subsidiaries in Denmark, France, Germany, Norway, Sweden, the UK and China, and a sales office in the United Arab Emirates. These are ege's key markets. ege also has a network of agents and distributors in 48 different countries.
ege focuses primarily on the contract market, where the company sells to five different segments:
In the domestic carpets market, ege concentrates its efforts in Denmark and Sweden. Our customers are primarily retail chains and independent retail stores.
The ege sales organisation takes care of carpet sales from the main office in Herning and through our subsidiary companies and agents/distributors. The sales department in Vejle takes care of yarn sales.
ege is managed by CEO Svend Aage Færch Nielsen and SEO John Vestergaard.

The group also offers employees a benefits package, including healthy food in the staff canteen and physiotherapy, which helps make ege carpets an attractive workplace.
In Herning, we employ 222 people, of whom 108 are monthly-paid and 114 are hourly-paid employees. In Gram, there is a total of 57 employees, of whom 10 are monthly-paid and 47 hourly-paid. In addition, there are 10 monthly-paid employees at ege contract. The overall total is 328 employees in Denmark.
